Practice: gesture of an underarm turn

Here's a new drawing...the drawing implement is a pair of suede dance shoes, my feet, and loose charcoal. I repeated the same underarm turn motion over and over. Then flipped the image upwards to show the marks out of context to the floor...I think it looks quite floral-explosion-y!

Now I just need huge paper

to do larger ballroom dance patterns!...for now the sketches will be interesting to experiment with...I am hoping for some connection to calligraphy and gesture drawing.

Pollen Series: Duran Duran Pollination

So Here's the last set, they are quite metallic in person, difficult to tell in the shot, but are layered with water-based and oil media on canvas. If one of the Duran Duran members were a painting bumble bee, this is what his work would look like.

Tweenage Bath update...

The challenge was to grow-up the bathroom without changing the denim blue wall color...it was a pretty youthful gingham and yellow (a more cottage vibe). So I paired the blue with a fresh green, chocolate brown and bright ivory. The rug is a chenille brown and blue zebra (super soft), the towels are a patterned chenille (super DUPER soft), and the nail polish painting is one of my originals (acrylic on canvas). The shower curtain is a funky ruffled cotton, a make-up mirror with crystal details, flock of mirrored butterflies, spider mums and a lucite salon stool were added to accessorize the room and make it well suited for sleepovers, make-overs, painting nails, getting your hair did, OMG, what else could a girl need?!

Nail polish painting

...going in a tweenage bathroom, just did this painting today (OPI and Revlon, obviously!), so excited to do the full install! Complete palette is denim blue, fern green, chocolate and ivory. Painting is acrylic on canvas, 18 x 36" with a chrome frame.
